Things to Do in Lima
Plaza de Armas
Plaza de Armas is also known as Plaza Mayor and has been registered under
UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is the historical center of Lima and the
most logical starting point for sightseeing. Built in 1651, the bronze
fountain and the center of the square is the only original structure
standing here. The Plaza also features Cathedral, Archbishop’s Palace, the
Casa del Oidor, & Palacio del Gobierno.
Lima's Cathedral is located towards the eastern side of the Plaza de Armas.
Its design is inspired from the cathedral in Seville, Spain. It comprises
the carved choir, a carving of Jesus in the chapel of St. John the Baptist,
& the altars in the ornate Spanish Baroque style. Also, there is a
small Museum of Religious Art in the back of the cathedral.
Lima's Art Museum (MALI)
Lima's Art Museum is also known as MALI (Museo de Arte de Lima). It is home
to over 1,200 pieces of Peruvian art ranging from the pre-Columbian times
to contemporary. The museum features pieces from multiple indigenous
cultures, including textiles and ceremonial items as well as modern,
abstract pieces from Peruvian artists.
