Austin is the capital of the US state of Texas and an inland city bordering
the Hill Country region. It is best known as the home to the University of
Texas and can be at best termed a university-city for most college-going
students. Austin is also the country’s second-largest state capital and
thus is a major epicentre of administration, politics and technology. The
city flaunts a profound accent of public arts and live-music scene, the
latter comprising Country, Blues and Rock genres of music. Those wishing
for some outdoor adventure can have a nice time enjoying hiking, biking,
swimming and boating in or around the city.
Things to do in Austin
University of Texas at Austin
The University of Texas at Austin is the flagship university of Texas. It
is also an art lover’s delight because it comprises many allied attractions
like the Blanton Museum of Art, the Harry Ransom Center, and Texas Memorial
Museum of Science and History. Another attraction here is the famous UT
tower that features a glimpse of the country’s history.
Relocated to the city in 1988, the Mexic-Arte Museum is a centrally-located
museum in the Downtown Austin. It is one of the few Mexican art museums
that are still found in the country. It features many rotating exhibits
that are related to immigration, border control, and acceptance of Mexican
culture in Texas. Also, of note here are art galleries that depict the
fusion of Mexican and American cultures.
Bullock Texas State History Museum
The Bullock Texas State History Museum is home to a stellar recital of
regional history through many interactive exhibits, and audio-visual
displays. Visitors can go to an IMAX theater installed here to see
educational and popular new-release films or go to the exhibit called the
Story of Texas where several artifacts and displays depicting historical
events are shown.
