Whistler Blackcomb
Whistler Blackcomb is one of the top three ski destinations in North America. It is located in Whistler, about 75 miles away from the city of Vancouver in Canada. This ski resort is focally known for hosting 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games. It comprise of four terrain parks, a snow cross-track and a superpipe. Whistler Blackcomb also features the Peak 2 Peak Gondola for moving between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, and this ropeway holds world records for being the highest and the longest unsupported cable car span.
Peak 2 Peak Gondola
Whistler Blackcomb’s top draw, Peak 2 Peak Gondola is a tri-cable gondola and the first lift that connects the two mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb. This iconic gondola holds world records for operating between the longest free span and at highest point above the ground. It stretches to 2.7 miles one way and covers the distance in 11 minutes flat to take a maximum of 4100 people per hour. It is quite an experience to take a trip in this gondola during the winter season as the rider gets to see snow-capped mountains, alpine lakes and dense coniferous forests.
Shannon Falls Provincial Park
Shannon Falls Provincial Park is home to Shannon Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in Canada. This park has consistently been a subject of TV shows and movies because it offers delightful natural scenery, picture-perfect beauty and a wide range of flora and fauna. Shannon Falls Provincial Park is located 36 miles away from Vancouver and is spread across an area of 87 hectares. Other attractions located close to this park are Murrin Provincial Park and Stawamus Chief Provincial Park. The former is famous for rock-climbing, hiking and camping while the latter is renowned as a popular picnic spot and small swimming lake.
Whistler Olympic Park
The Whistler Olympic Park is the site of Nordic events facilities for the 2010 Winter Olympics. It had then hosted winter games facilities like biathlon, cross-country skiing, Nordic combined and ski jumping. This park is located in the Callaghan Valley to the west of Whistler. Visitors are often impressed with its a public cross-country and back country ski facilities that mainly comprise of an 8.7 mile long cross country and biathlon trails, 2 ski jumps and some recreational trails that run up to more than over 12.5 miles.
