Edison and Ford Winter Estates

Florida’s Edison and Ford Winter Estates are two famous riverside winter homes of eminent scientist Thomas A Edison and noted industrialist Henry Ford. These estates are flanked by Edison Botanical Research Laboratory, Edison’s Botanical Garden, and the Edison Ford Museum. Of special note here are 400-feet tall, nearly 100 years old banyan tree, and a rubber plant that was devised by Edison to counter the shortage of rubber in the First World War.

Southwest Florida’s only planetarium, the Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium in Fort Myers consists of a natural history museum, nature trails, a planetarium, butterfly house, bird aviary and picnic areas. It comprises several species of flora and fauna native to Florida. Another attraction here is an aviary that houses rehabilitated birds of prey.
