Portland Museum of Art

Wadsworth-Longfellow House

The Wadsworth-Longfellow House is the oldest standing structure on the Portland peninsula and the childhood home of famous American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882). Built in typical Federal architecture, it was appended by a garden in 2007. In this garden stands an old lilac tree and Children’s Gate designed by the nephew of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.


Victoria Mansion (or the Morse-Libby House or Morse-Libby Mansion)

Victoria Mansion is one of the finest examples of a large Italianate brick-and-brownstone home in the United States. Its classical elegance directly relates to America’s 19th century aristocratic lifestyle, and would wow you with the mansion’s façade, interiors, furnishings and early household amenities. Some highlights here are twin sinks, a Turkish smoking room built in Islamic architecture style, and some carved marble fireplaces.


Fort Williams Park

Fort Williams Park is a 90-acre park in Cape Elizabeth and is situated less than 9 miles from Portland. It is centred on a ruined fort called Fort Williams that was used from 1872 to 1964. This fort was a prominent post during both the World Wars. Some highlights here are the Portland Head Light (the oldest functioning lighthouse in Maine), the Goddard Mansion, and some Second World War bunkers and gun positions.
