Obviously, this island is the reason where Wilmington's nickname ‘The Island City’ comes from. The Gemini Giant is a landmark statue at the Eastern entrance to Wilmington. Standing outside a restaurant, the 30 foot tall statue is one of many giant ‘Muffler Man’ advertising props that were once immensely popular as advertising signs in America. Named after the Gemini space program, the Gemini Giant is depicted as a tall structure which is wearing an astronaut's space helmet and a silver spaceship in his hands.

It is now turned into a public museum known as the Wilmington Area Historical Society Museum that hosts American Civil War relics.
