A city and a seaport in Marche region in central Italy, Ancona is located around 170 miles northeast of Rome. The city is one of the main ports on the Adriatic Sea and the main demographic and economic center of the region. There are lots of things to do and see in Ancona and most notable of them are its spacious squares, historic sites, churches, and white sand beaches surrounding the city. The city has been an important trade center since the Roman era when the rulers Caesar and Trajan built and developed Ancona into a naval base.

Harbor and Piazza della Repubblica:
Piazza della Repubblica is the hub of Ancona's traffic, both land sea. On the west side of Piazza della Repubblica is located a harbor, which is a large oval basin used since the Roman era. The area of harbor is beautiful and is home to few tourist attractions such as Arco di Traiano and the Arco Clementico.
A Roman Catholic cathedral in Ancona, Ancona Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Cyriacus of Ancona. This church is the seat od Archbishop of Ancona. Church's building is an excellent example of mixed Gothic and Romanesque-Byzantine elements.
