It has served home to numerous early bankers, businessmen, and political leaders including Bennet Blake, William Ochiltree, and Thomas J. Rusk. Located in its premises are heirloom gardens, a sugarcane mill, chicken coop, blacksmith shop, and a fully functioning smokehouse. The Durst-Taylor Historic House and Gardens holds annual Old-Fashioned Sweet Tooth Sugarcane event on second Saturday in the month of January.
