Nairobi
The capital and largest city in Kenya, Nairobi evokes all the adventure and
romance of its hued colonial days. The city boasts rich history and culture
which is apparent in its interesting museums. Wildlife is its main draw of
Nairobi. It is one of the only cities around the world to have a safari
park within its borders. This city is also a gateway to the famed safari
parks of the country. Some of the major tourist attractions in Nairobi are
Nairobi National Park, Karen Blixen Museum, and Giraffe Center.
Mombasa
Mombasa, a city on the coast of Kenya, is the oldest and second-largest
city in the country. The county seat of Mombasa County, Mombasa is a
cultural and economic hub, and boasts a large port and an international
airport. Located on the east coast of Kenya, Mombasa is an important
regional tourism centre. Some of the major tourist attractions in Mombasa
are Diani Beach, Haller Park, and Shimba Hill National Reserve.
Nakuru
The capital city of Nakuru County, Nakuru is located in the northwest of
Nairobi, in the Great Rift Valley. The city is in proximity to the Lake
Nakuru National Park, which is home to giraffes, rhinos, lions and
leopards. Lake Nakuru attracts hordes of flamingos. There are several
lookout points in the park such as Baboon Cliff and Lion Hills offering
stunning views of the lake, the birds, and mammals such as baboons and
warthogs. Rift Valley area around the city is home to the enormous Menengai
Crater, a volcano offering fascinating vistas of the lake from its peak.
Located in the northeast of the city, Hyrax Hill is a famous archaeological
site boasting evidence of primeval habitation dating back to the Neolithic
era. Another excellent place to visit for history lovers is Hyrax Hill
Museum, which is home to artifacts collected from Hyrax Hill and from
various other sites in the valley.
