South Dakota is a state in the Midwestern region of the United States and its capital is Pierre. It is cleanly bisected by the Missouri River to yield two mutually exclusive geographical parts called East River and West River, and that they both have two distinct listings for nightlife and scenic attractions. South Dakota derives its name from a Native American tribe, and it is nobody’s guess that you would find this state an intriguing bracket of American Indian culture, seconded by some Old West history and native wildlife. Some star attractions here include the Mount Rushmore National Monument, five national parks (most popular of them being the Badlands National Park), home to an extensive cave network (the Black Hills) and a site dedicated to Cold War history (the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site).
Mount Rushmore National Memorial attracts and astonishes thousands of visitors every year with its four imposing, 60 feet high sculptures representing faces of four former US Presidents. This ultra-grand sculpture was blasted and carved from the white rock using dynamites over a 14-year period from 1927 to 1941.
Badlands National Park in South Dakota is an alpha point of rugged terrains and bizarre sci-fi geological formations, the latter also being characterized by several differently colored domes, twisted canyons and slanted walls. The Badlands National Park is home to the largest and protected mixed grass prairie in the country. Some star attractions here include one of the world’s largest fossil beds (that are assumed to be around 20 to 35 million years), some superb day hiking features and a large number of bison.
Black Hills National Forest and Black Hills Mountains in South Dakota are home to one of the most road-built national forests in the country. The Black Hills offer a stunning contrast to the state’s lush prairies and its related flora and fauna. If you prefer hiking, you should take time to visit the 100-mile long Black Hills bicycle trail and Winter sports like snowboarding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, skiing and sledding.
