It was named after St. Stephens (or St. Etienne in French) is the capital of the Loire department. During the 15th century, Saint-Etienne was an important center of metalworking and few centuries later, it also earned a reputation for heavy metalworking and coal mining. Consequently, the attractions in the city are museums that tell about the city’s historical and gradual evolution in these two businesses. Prominent tourist attractions here are Museum Art & Industry, Parc du Museee de la Mine (Mining Museum Park), Museum of old Saint-Etienne and Les Ateliers et le Conservatoire des Meilleurs Ouvriers de France. A cool day out here would surely include a visit to L'Astronef, the planetarium of St Etienne.
