The color of the water is brown because of the tannins leached from the cedar swamps drained by the river. These falls are located within Tahquamenon Falls State Park.

Paradise
An unincorporated community in Whitefish Township, Paradise is surrounded by state and national forests and has tourism as its primary business. It is considered as one of the two gateways to the Tahquamenon Falls area. Paradise is the point of entry to Whitefish Point, which is famed for the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum.

Drummond Island
