Calais is a town and the largest city in Pas-de-Calais, France. It is the closest French town to England and also the chief ferry port between France and England. Calais has been an important center for trade and transportation between the two countries. The was pretty significant in the trade and production of wool and cloth. Today as well there are two major lace factories in the town. The town is also well known due to its fishing markets which are famous for oysters, lobsters, crabs and smoked fish including salmon, trout, herring and halibut.

Les Six Burghers Monument
The Six Burghers is the most famous landmark in the city of Calaris. These sculptures were built in the memory of the six men who surrendered themselves to be hanged to the king Edward III of England, with the hope that it will free the city from the English rule. However, The King’s wife, Queen Phillippa requested her husband to spare the lives of these men and the city remained under the English rule until 1558.
Calais Town Hall
The Calais Town Hall due to its architecture and history is one of the important landmarks in the city. The construction of the town hall was completed in the year 1925. The building is made up of bricks and stones in the Neo- Flemish style. The spire of the bell tower is approximately 75 meters high. The entire structure of the town hall is such that it is visible from miles.
Calais Lighthouse
The lighthouse tower is around 51 meters tall. It has a spherical staircase with approximately 271 steps leading to the lantern at the top. Though reaching the lighthouse can be little tedious but it provides the most amazing view of the city.
