Barranquilla, a city in northern Columbia, is the only major city in South
America that was populated before its formal foundation. Located near the
Caribbean Sea, Barranquilla is the largest city and port in the northern
Caribbean Coast region of Colombia. The city was known as the Golden Gate
of Columbia in the late 19th century, as the city served as an entry into
the country for goods and passengers. Barranquilla is known for the
magnificent Republican-era architecture as well as its lovely beaches,
fun-filled festivals, and interesting museums.

Museum of the Caribbean
Museum serves as a guide to the entire Caribbean coast of Columbia. Opened
in 2009, Museum of the Caribbean uses photos, videos, and artefacts to show
culture, history, and biodiversity of the region. Two of its five floors
are dedicated to the musical and literary heritages of the region.
Romantic Museum is housed in an 18th century Republican era mansion. The
museum puts on showcase the collection displaying a plethora of artefacts
from famous personalities who lived around this city. Some of the major
highlights of the museum includes the letters from Simon Bolivar, the Great
Liberator, as well as the typewriter with whom Gabriel Garcia Marquez wrote
one of his novels.
Puerto Colombia is located approximately eight miles from Barranquilla. It
is an ideal place to escape from the bustle-filled city atmosphere. This
town was once a vital port and has now become a well-known beach getaway.
Pradomar is a renowned beach at Puerto Colombia featuring dark sands and
captivating view of the sea.
Best Time to Fly to Barranquilla
Because of its proximity to the sea and being in a flat area, Barranquilla
features a hot and humid tropical climate characterized by high humidity.
Weather-wise, the best time to book flights from Miami to Barranquilla is
from December to April. It is the time when the weather remains dry and
pleasant. For lesser crowds, one can book Barranquilla flights in the last
weeks of June and the first half of July.
