Charlotte is the most populous city in the state of North Carolina and the county seat of Mecklenburg County in the US. Located in the hilly area of Piedmont, the city derives its name from the wife of King George II. Like most Americana cities, Charlotte’s Uptown is the place for all history buffs where they can wow themselves with the city’s sheer number and variance of museums. Some highlights here are Charlotte Museum of History, Rosedale Plantation, and the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

Things to do in Charlotte

NASCAR Hall of Fame

NASCAR Hall of Fame is home to everything related to the NASCAR, America’s premier car racing event. It features a simulated racetrack, some of the most iconic racing cars of yesteryears (including a 1952 Hudson Hornet, a 1967 Chevelle, and 2008 Chevy Impala SS) and the heroes of the sport. A visit to the High-Octane Theatre is also for its 64-foot-wide projection screen with surround sound that relays audio-visual treats related to the iconic sports event.

Carolinas Aviation Museum

As is NASCAR’s Hall of Fame to racing cars, so is Carolinas Aviation Museum to the history, technology, and evolution of air travel and aircraft. The museum features many vintage and historic aircrafts on display, none more famous than a copy of the Wright Flyer and the Grumman F-14D Super Tomcat fighter aircraft. Also, of note here is the First world War’s fighter place called Douglas A-4A Skyhawk and the Sopwith Camel biplane.

Charlotte Museum of History

The Charlotte Museum of History is a mirror image of the city’s historical past and its nearby regions. It features 3 permanent exhibits like the seven-ton American Freedom Bell, a 1769 Spanish cannon, and a mid-19 th century stone Chilean mill. The museum is flanked by some beautifully restored buildings like the Hezekiah Alexander House, the Kitchen, and the Springhouse.
