Built in the 18th century over a period of seven years, Taman Sari was built by a Portuguese architect and features a superb park with palaces, pools and waterways which were used by the sultan and his associates.

Built during the Dutch era, the fort of Benteng Vredeburg has been converted into a museum. The museum features interesting dioramas related to freedom struggle in Yogyakarta. Watch for the architectural design of the fort.

Check out a superlative collection of Javanese art work like wayang kulit puppets, masks, kris and batik at the Sono-Budoyo Museum. The museum’s courtyard is crammed with Hindu statues and artifacts and Balinese sculptures. The courtyard also hosts shows by Wayang kulit.
