Officially the Togolese Republic, Togo is a country in West Africa. The country is bordered by Benin to the east, Ghana to the west, and Burkina faso to the north. Togo extends south to the Gulf of Guinea. It is a culturally-rich country and boasts a medley of winding rivers, misty mountains and swamps, and muddy backcountry. There are several lovely beaches located in the south of the country and there are also several little lagoons hosting a list of watersports. Popular Destinations in Togo

Lome

Lome, the capital city of Togo, is famous for its palm-lined Atlantic coastline. A major tourist attraction in the city, the central Independence Monument is in a scenic traffic circle. Congressional Palace, located close to the Independence Monument, houses the National Museum that puts on display West African masks, jewelry, pottery, and musical instruments. To the northeast of the city is the Akodessewa Fetish Market selling voodoo items like animal skulls and skins. The Grand Marche is a large market selling daily-use items, from fruits to soccer shirts. An excellent place to visit for history lovers, the Gulf of Guinea International Museum is home to a private collection of statues, sculptures, and carvings from all over West Africa. In the east of town on Lake Togo is Togoville Village which is famed as a voodoo center.

Kpalime

Kpalime, a town in the southwest Togo, is in the Plateaux Region, bordered by coffee and cocoa plantations. Arguably the most popular tourist attraction in the town is a 1913 German-built church with a tall steeple. To the east of Kpalime is the Mount Agou offering views across to Ghana. In the northwest of the city, on the Ghanaian border, is located Missahohe Forest famous for its butterflies.

Kara

Kara, a city in northern Togo, is situated in Kara Region, about 413 kilometers north of the capital Lome. It is the capital city in the Kara region. The Kara River flowing through the city is its major resource of water.

Best Time to Visit Togo

Weather-wise, November to February is the best time to take Togo flights. The country experiences dry season and pleasant climate apt for sightseeing. It is also the peak tourist season in the country. It is advisable to book tickets in advance to get cheap flights to Togo as airfares tend to rise during peak season.
