Brazil celebrates carnival each year with much pomp and glamor. Known as the City of Carnival, Rio De Janeiro throws one of the world's most vibrant parties, with dance and music filling the streets for five days straight. Carnival (or Carnaval in Portuguese) is the best-known outing of Brazilian popular culture. Held every year before Lent, Rio Carnival commences the Friday before Ash Wednesday. The 2019 Rio Carnival is scheduled to take place from 1st March, Friday to 6th March, Wednesday.
There is a lot to do during the Rio Carnival, from parades, street parties, balls, to free concerts. Visitors will get to see some of the flashiest costumes on display during the festivities. The scale of the festivities is hard to imagine till you find yourself in the midst of all that loud chaos. The highlight of the Carnival is the Samba Parade. Visitors must make their way in a crowd of thousands to see the city’s 12 best samba schools display their artistic excellence. Several prestigious balls (ranging from formal black tie to costumed) with live music and dancing are held in upscale hotels and theaters. The city also hosts over 500 street parties across every neighborhood with thousands of partygoers. Be prepared to indulge in your share of Samba, Brazilian funk, and Caipirinhas!
