It is located at an elevation of 33 feet on the bank of Yukon River in the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta. It is situated nearly 80 miles away from Bering Sea, and its coordinates are 61°56?10?N 162°53?0?W. The city was treated as a landmark by riverboat pilots. Considered quite scenic in its own might, the city is a hotbed of Alaskan Natives and assumes a traditional lifestyle characteristic of Eskimos. The nearest and largest community here is Mountain Village, which lies about 29 miles to the west of Pilot Station. It is followed by Saint Marys, a city that lies about 12 miles to the northwest of the city and has an airport with its name. This airport is situated 15 miles from the Pilot Station.
Two star attractions in Pilot Station are an early 20th century Russian Orthodox Church called the Transfiguration of Our Lord Chapel and a Catholic Church called St. Charles Spinola that serve the village.
