American Memorial Park is an attraction in Northern Mariana Islands which history buffs must not miss out while exploring the country. The main attraction of this Saipan national park is the monument that boasts the names of the 5,204 Marianas and American soldiers who were martyred during the WWII Marianas Campaign. American Memorial Park also boasts a peaceful beach, playground, scenic pathway, and a lot of green space for picnics.
Last Command Post
Last Command Post was the last Northern Mariana Islands command post of the Second World war Japanese Imperial Army, named as Banadero. This post features a bunker between two soaring cliffs known as Suicide and Banzai. Lots of Japanese and Korean residents threw themselves off these cliffs after the Japanese lost the final Battle of Saipan confrontation, rather than surrendering themselves to the Americans. Last Command Post is a limestone cave boasting a collection of vintage Japanese WWII cannons, tanks, and several other military relics.
As Nieves Latte Stone Quarry
Chamorro, the original residents of Northern Mariana Islands, constructed their homes and other significant buildings from distinctive latte stones. Nieves Latte Stone Quarry is one of the most remarkable surviving landmarks from this time period. It is a massive unfinished limestone quarry located near the Rota village of Sinapalo. It is not known why this grand project was suddenly forsaken, but some of these structures stand as high as 25 feet and their stones date back as far back as 845 AD.
