Managua, the capital city of Nicaragua, is situated on the southwestern shore of Lake Managua. It is the largest city in the nation. The city is poetic and mesmerizing at the same time. Boasting its own personality, Managua is replete with volcanic lagoons, vibrant nightlife, shopping malls, hotels, and restaurants. Some of the major tourist attractions in Managua include Antigua Cathedral, Arboretum Nacional, and Huellas de Acahualinca.


Located on the shores of Lake Nicaragua, Granada is home to several Spanish colonial landmarks that have endured constant pirate invasions. Central Park, the city’s main plaza, is dominated by the flamboyant, neoclassical facade of the Cathedral of Granada, dating back to 1583. Centro Cultural Convento San Francisco, located near the plaza, is known for its displays of pre-Columbian statues. Iglesia de la Merced, a baroque church built in 1534, has a bell tower from where visitors can admire the city, lake, and Mombacho Volcano. Fortaleza de la Polvora, built by the Spanish in 1748, is a former fortress turned military museum also offering panoramic views of the city. To the south of the city is the Mombacho Volcano Nature Reserve offering hiking trails around the volcano’s rim.


A city in western Nicaragua, Masaya is the gateway to Masaya Volcano National Park, boasting lots of craters and the active Masaya Volcano. El Malecon, located on the edge of town, is a walkway overlooking a crystalline crater lake - Laguna de Masaya. Masaya is famous for its National Artisan Market putting on sale handmade hammocks, pottery, and woodcarvings.

Weather-wise, the best time to take Nicaragua flights is from November and May. During this period, the country sees ample of sunshine. This is also the peak tourism season in the country.
