New Caledonia is a special collectivity of France in the southwest Pacific Ocean. This country is a group of islands and a part of the Melanesia region. The archipelago includes the Loyalty Islands, Grand Terre, the Isles of Pines, the Belep archipelago, Chesterfields Islands, and a few remote islets. the country is famous for its palm-lined beaches and aquatic-life-rich lagoon, which stretches in an area of around 24,000 square kilometers. There is a massive barrier reef surrounding the main island of the country. New Caledonia also features many scuba diving sites. Other major tourist attractions here include excellent restaurants, luxury boutiques, and more.
Noumea
Noumea is the capital of New Caledonia. The city is situated on the main island - Grand Terre. Noumea is famous for its lovely beaches and a mixed-bag of native Kanak and French influences. The Kanak heritage can be explored at the Jean-Marie Tjibaou Cultural Centre. An excellent place to visit for history buffs, the Musee de Nouvelle-Caledonie boasts exhibits from across the Pacific region. Nature lovers can visit the Aquarium des Lagons introducing visitors with local marine life.
Isle of Pines
The Isle of Pines is an island in New Caledonia. The island is in the southeast of the main island, Grande Terre. The island is famous for its tall pine trees and white sand beaches. Located in the northeast of the city, Oro Bay boasts a natural pool circumscribed by a coral reef. In the south of the island is the Kuto Bay. In neighboring Kanumera Bay, there is a large rock considered holy by the locals. This rock sits just offshore in in the bay. Located on the western side of the island is the village of Ouro, the ruins of a 19th-century French penal colony attract history buffs to it. Several exiled political prisoners were convicted here.
The Loyalty Islands
Loyalty Islands comprise six islands. All these islands have their own charm and attractions. The largest island among them is Lifou boasting pristine beaches, deep tropical forests, huge caves, volcanic cliffs, and an affluent history. Another beautiful island of the Loyalty Islands, Mare boasts a wild beauty, with carved cliffs, dark forests, basalt rocks, and long undisturbed beaches. The smallest of the Loyalty Islands, Tiga can be visited as a day trip from Lifou.
