Melbourne is easy to get around
Melbourne is laid out well, with trains headed in all directions and trams crisscrossing downtown. It is very cosmopolitan with varied ethnic restaurants and bars available. There is little Chinatown, but a big one. The big Chinese university student presence makes it lively. I estimate 50% of those 18 to 30 that I saw in the downtown.
The Melbourne museum is one of the best: interesting, educational, and free. People are friendly and the hostels provide an opportunity to experience a myriad of points of view. Hostels also help deal with the pricey hotels. The Victoria Market is good for food and souvenirs. Every kind of quality. Mostly good values. Try it! You'll like it! But bring some cash. It is about as pricey as the middle US. - Grace Nov 19, 2015
