Topography of the park includes a coastal plain extending to the Bering Sea. Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge is home to about 35 villages and around 25,000 people. The coastal region of the park bordering the sea is an affluent and productive wildlife habitat that supports one of the largest concentrations of water fowl around the globe. There are more than a million ducks and around half a million geese using this area for breeding purposes every year. The region boasts huge seasonal concentrations of loons, northern pintails, cranes, swans, and grebes. In the winters, the waters of Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge becomes home to seals, walruses, beluga, porpoises, and minke whales.
