A beautiful 29-acre state park in Fairbanks, Chena River State Recreation Area offers access to Chena River as well as picnic area, campground, and pedestrian trails. Visitors in this area can enjoy a day of hiking and rock climbing at Granite Tors, riding a four-wheeler along a forest trail, and much more. This recreation area boasts 397 square miles of alpine tundra, river, and forests. Wildlife is in abundance in the area and visitors can frequently witness moose munching in the beaver ponds and sloughs along Chena Hot Springs Road. One can also spot black and grizzly bears in its alpine areas. Black bears are found in areas having rich vegetation.
