Since opening last Tuesday, the new feature at Rome’s Colosseum that offers underground guided tours has been selling out with not only tourists visiting but locals taking part in the popular attraction.
Pietro Vitelli, one of the ticket office operators, commented on the success of the tour: “Italians are more informed. They saw it on TV, but the foreigners are
getting more and more interested.”
This is the first time that the underground has been open to the public, while the upper tier had been shut down since the 1970s according to the Culture Ministry.
