Malaysia Airlines has announced that it will soon join the OneWorld Alliance. The carrier hopes to begin flying as a full member in 2012.
When that happens, Malaysia passengers will be able to earn and redeem rewards on any flights operated by other OneWorld members.
The alliance currently consists of over a dozen airlines, including major carriers like American Airlines, British Airways, Qantas, and Cathay Pacific.
With the addition of Malaysia Airlines, the alliance will now reach nearly 950 destinations in 150 countries while transporting 358 million passengers annually.
Two more airlines, Germany’s Airberlin and India’s Kingfisher, are also expected to join the alliance in 2012.
