German Officials Say Bean Sprouts May Not Be Cause of E. Coli Outbreak

This blog post was updated on October 11, 2018.

Officials in Germany have yet to establish a link between suspected bean sprouts at an organic farm in northern Germany and Europe’s thriving E. Coli outbreak.

Reports over the weekend linked the farm to the outbreak after a pattern seemed to develop between it and five contamination sites in Germany.

However, tests on samples taken from the farm have so far come back negative. Officials say that even without a positive sample, they cannot rule out prior contamination at the farm.

Even so, it could be weeks before officials can track the source of the outbreak for certain.
