American Airlines Ditches Salads in Europe Over E. Coli Worries

This blog post was updated on October 4, 2018.

An E. Coli outbreak in Germany is being blamed for 16 deaths while sickening hundreds more.

The exact source of the outbreak remains a mystery but officials suspect bacteria-infected lettuce, cucumbers, and tomatoes may be to blame.

To quell travelers’ fears, American Airlines announced on its website that it will temporarily suspend service of in-flight salads on all flights originating in Europe.

The airline said it will monitor reports and seek advice from the World Health Organization before reinstating in-flight salads.
