Braunschweig, also known as Braunswick in English, is a city situated on the northern side of the Harz Mountains, Lower Saxony, Germany. The city today is second largest and amongst the major scientific research and development centers in the state of Lower Saxony. The city’s centre is majorly a pedestrian zone and generally remains free from cars. The Castle Square lies in the centre of the city and was built by Henry the Lion, the most powerful ruler in the Guelph Dynasty. The ruler’s legacy also includes a statue of the lion, the symbol of the ruler’s reign. The art and architecture of the castle will take you almost 850 years back.
