San Diego’s temperate climes makes it the perfect host for fabulous food and drink events happening throughout the year. California’s Southerner patiently waits the arrival of the summer season with lively festivals and events beginning in late winter and transitioning into the rest of the seasons. So, if you’re wondering when to take a trip to this beautiful city, consider scheduling your travel days around these flavorful and refreshing events.

Annual San Diego Festival of Beer

If you’re a beer drinker who loves to taste-test new crafts then this is surely a festival you must attend! The 24th annual festival of beer takes place at the end of September each year and includes live music, beer tasting, food trucks, games, and more. Expect to see a large crowd of people here along with over 50 breweries serving up over 120 different beers. And the best part about this annual event is that it’s a fundraiser coordinated by San Diego Professionals Against Cancer (SDPAC) and ALL proceeds go to cancer-fighting charities.

When you just can’t get enough of mac n’ cheese, head on over to this festival! The 4th annual San Diego Mac N’ Cheese Fest is simply a comfort food lover’s dream. The festival is 21+ and includes wine and beer to wash down the cheesiness you’ll devour. The festival brings in some of the best restaurants competing for the title of the “Best Gourmet Mac N’ Cheese” in San Diego and all attendees are able to vote for their fave mac! Tickets start at $40 including unlimited mac n’ cheese samples and 10 beer tastings.

It’s one of the largest wine and food festivals in the nation. San Diego’s 15th annual Wine and Food Festival takes place from November 12th to November 18th this year. Those in attendance will find some of the best foods and spirits that the city has to offer. Taste new and different wines and foods from the very best restaurants and vendors scattered throughout the festival. Purchase tickets for wine tasting from $85 and above, found on the festival site.

This event is San Diego’s largest free festival, with over 350,000 guests in attendance this past year. Locals and visitors look forward to the first Friday and Saturday of December to celebrate this 40-year-old tradition. All who attend Balboa Park’s December Nights will enjoy live performances, incredible light displays, delicious food, music, dancing, and more. Remember to bring a jacket or sweater — San Diego isn’t always 80 degrees and sunny (especially in the winter)!

The Fallbrook Avocado Festival

If avocados are to you what chocolate is to most people, then you’ll love the Fallbrook Avocado Festival. Located in San Diego’s north county, the festival celebrates the central role of avocados to the area. Fallbrook is right at the center of the U.S. avocado industry and it’s where you’ll find the majority of avocado groves. Thousands come for the craft and food booths, all with an avocado theme, along with the beer gardens, live entertainment, and wacky cooking contests. So, if you don’t like guacamole or anything including avocados, this probably isn’t the festival for you!
