Iriomote Island
Having most of its area designated as protected national park, Iriomote Island is a beautiful place covered with mangrove woods. Shuri Castle
Also named as Castles of Ryukyu Kingdom, Shuri Castle is listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is perched on a hill and is pierced by a number of large gates and features beautifully decorated buildings that are mostly vermillion in color. Until 1979, Shuri Castle was the official residence of the Ryuku monarchs.
Tamaudun Mausoleum
Built on a grand scale, Tamaudun Mausoleum is a traditional Okinawan mausoleum built listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This Mausoleum was constructed in the 16th century and today, three chambers can be explored by the visitors- one for kings and queens, one for prince and princess, while the another one for housing bodies.
