Elephanta Caves, located on the Elephanta Island (Gharapuri, meaning the city of caves), are a vast network of sculpted caves. The Elephanta Island lies at a distance of nearly 10 kilometres from the city in Mumbai Harbour. There are two groups of caves, large and small. The large group comprises five Hindu Caves and the smaller group consists of two Buddhist Caves.
