The Museum of Contemporary Art was set up on 30 August, 1973 by Simon Bolivar Center. The MAC was the first Venezuelan museum to offer a library service specialized in art, a formal plastic training space for children and adults, a special education department for the blind and a multimedia center for the arts.

It is the birthplace of the Liberator Simon Bolivar, and is located in the Cathedral Parish of Caracas.
