    St. George Cathedral

    The St. George Cathedral is situated in the city of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It is said to be constructed towards the end of the 19th century. The Church was built by Emperor Menelik II to commemorate the defeat of the Italians in Adwa in 1896. It is also dedicated to St. George (Ethiopia’s patron saint), whose icon was carried into the battle. The cathedral is amongst the most beautiful churches within the city. The exterior of the cathedral is covered with grey stone. Parts of its ceilings glow in skyblue and gilded stars. The paintings and mosaics by the renowned artist, Afewerk Tekle, cover the walls of the innermost shrine here.


    Ethnological Museum

    The Ethnological Museum is located within the former palace of Haile Selassie and is surrounded by the beautiful gardens and fountains. At its entrance is a set of 13 stairs (a symbol of Fascist domination). A small Lion of Judah sits on the top of the final step. The Ethnological Museum serves as a home to a wide range of objects that expain the country's history, tradition, & culture. These objects include ethno-musicological items, philatelic & coin collections, traditional medicine, and burial customs. Also housed here are old Ethiopian religious paintings, many of which were in danger of being lost during 1960s & 70s.


    Fasil Ghebbi (Royal Enclosure)

    Fasil Ghebbi (Royal Enclosure) is registered under UNESCO's World Heritage Site since 1979. The Royal Enclosure is an expansive walled complex and comprises various royal castles & palaces. Most of these palaces & castles date from the mid-17th century. The Fasilades Palace with its domed towers and huge wooden doors is the most striking of all & has been restored recently.


    Zoological Natural History Museum

    The Zoological Natural History Museum was set up in the year 1955 at the University College of Addis Ababa. At present the museum resides within the science faculty of the college. It is the country's only natural history attraction. Housed here are specimens of red Sea corals, marine and freshwater molluscs, echinoderms, insects, fish, amphibian, reptiles, mammals, and more.
