North Dakota: Lake Sakakawea State Park<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Lake Sakakawea State Park<\/a> serves as the end of the 4,600-mile North Country National Scenic Trail that stretches from upstate New York<\/a> all the way to North Dakota<\/a>. If you don\u2019t fancy walking the whole way there, the state park is also just a one-hour drive north from Bismarck. One of the largest man-made reservoirs in the US, Lake Sakakawea is named after the 16-year-old woman who proved instrumental in assisting explorers Lewis and Clark on their famous westward expedition.
