A resting place for many fleeing the Great Depression in the 1930s, Monterey was immortalized in several of author John Steinbeck’s most famous novels including Cannery Row<\/em>, Tortilla Flat,<\/em>
\nand East of Eden.<\/em><\/p>\n

Today, the county is home to a number of family-owned vineyards and wineries.<\/p>\n

Like many areas that thrive on tourism, Monterey took a bit of a hit during the recent Great Recession. Members of the Monterey County
\nVintners and Growers Association are hoping that 12 new eight-foot murals along Highway 101 will lure in travelers passing through the area.<\/p>\n
