For most, New York City is a mecca of cool. It has the hottest clubs, the hippest restaurants, gastro pubs and mixologists, and some of the most avant garde art and music. But since July 13th is Embrace Your Geekness Day, let\u2019s take acknowledge some of the great city spots on the other side of the coolness spectrum.<\/p>\n

Whether you like to get your game on (table-top style, that is), travel through time and space, or bask in Sci-Fi aesthetic, there are some places nerds need to visit in New York<\/a>!<\/p>\n

The Waystation<\/strong><\/a>
\n683 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn<\/em><\/p>\n

Part Doctor Who tribute, part steampunk chic, this self-dubbed \u201cMusic Venue and Nerdvana\u201d\u00a0 has become synonymous with Brooklyn geek culture.The drinks are named after your favorite Time Lords – with some other notable film nods as well. It\u2019s just a few hundred feet from The Brooklyn Museum. So take in some art & culture, then order yourself a Sonic Screwdriver, and take part in Nerd Karaoke, or listen to a band, and take a break in the TARDIS bathroom. Teachers get drink specials during Friday Happy Hour. While the venue does not serve food, they have a binder full of great local eateries that will deliver a meal right to the bar.

\nBrooklyn Game Lab<\/a><\/strong>

The only non-bar on this list is family-friendly and will most certainly bring out the kid in you. Primarily an after-school program, Brooklyn Game Lab is geared towards not only getting kids to play, but also prodding them to think strategically, critically, analyze and discuss\/debate gaming. Kids can sign-up for lab sessions that includes play time, analysis, and design time – where they can build a better game! But this place isn\u2019t just for youngins. The After-Hours schedule is just for adults, with free play sessions, singles night, and themed parties. You can also test and buy new games you may have never heard of before. They are also available for private parties, and occasionally host speakers and musical performers.<\/p>\n

LoveCraft<\/strong><\/a>
\n50 Avenue B, Manhattan<\/em><\/p>\n

This restaurant\/bar\/parlor will appeal to sci-fi fans, as well as anyone who\u2019s into really intricate decoration. Born from an affection for author H.P. Lovecraft, this Lower Manhattan venue has a spooky vibe, that will make you feel lost in a mad apothecary\u2019s workshop. Though specializing in vodka infusions, they also have a full menu – even brunch! They offer a wide variety of events, from trivia nights, to costume parties, to comedy and live music. Also welcomed are rentals for bachelor\/bachelorette parties – so bring your friends, if you dare!
