That\u2019s right, it\u2019s almost time for Oktoberfest, which we\u2019re sure you know is mostly in September and by tradition spans the 17 days leading up to the first Sunday of October. It\u2019s considered the world\u2019s largest beer festival and traveling fair which started out as the wedding celebration of Princess Ludwig I and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen in a field on the edge of Munich with the entire city present in 1810.<\/p>\n<p>So in honor of this major celebration of Bavarian culture, we decided to run down the top five Oktoberfests to attend&#8230;that aren\u2019t in Germany.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fkitchenerwaterloooktoberfest%2Fposts%2F1968211653204445%3A0&amp;width=500&amp;show_text=false&amp;height=333&amp;appId\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nStarted in 1969, the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest held in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onetravel.com\/cheap-flights\/canada-ca-deals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ontario<\/a> is considered the second-largest edition of the fest on the planet. The festivities usually run\u00a0from the second week of October and typically include a parade, a fashion show, a Miss Oktoberfest contest, a 5K fun run, a bike tour, a beer tent (of course), and much more.<\/p>\n<h2>\u00a0Blumenau, Brazil<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Foktoberfestblumenau%2Fposts%2F1454385314590924%3A0&amp;width=500&amp;show_text=false&amp;height=498&amp;appId\" width=\"500\" height=\"498\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nAn Oktoberfest celebration so major it has its own Wikipedia page, the Blumenau Oktoberfest held in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onetravel.com\/cheap-flights\/brazil-br-deals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brazil<\/a> is a notorious version of the celebration. It\u2019s been going on since the 1980s and features a Queen of Oktoberfest pageant, a drinking competition where the contestants see who can down a meter of beer the fastest, and more. No worries&#8211;you still have options right here in the U.S.A The largest Oktoberfest in America, this celebration in Cincinnati (which is written out as \u201cZinZinnatti\u201d for the festival) is normally set to run the third week of\u00a0September. Events include the annual running of the Wieners, the world\u2019s largest chicken dance, a tug o\u2019 war competition, and a whole lot of beer, food, and live music.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Brisbane, Australia<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FOktoberfestBris%2Fposts%2F10154639651923737%3A0&amp;width=500&amp;show_text=false&amp;height=332&amp;appId\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nArguably the only Oktoberfest worth attending in the land down under, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onetravel.com\/cheap-flights\/australia-au-deals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Australia&#8217;s<\/a> Oktoberfest essentially turns the city\u2019s downtown into a small German town for two weekends every fall. The celebration usually takes place in the second week of October. Notable festival features include a farm animal petting zoo, a puppet show, lessons on German dancing, Miss Oktoberfest Brisbane, Bavarian Strongmen competitions, and German language classes for teens.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Hong Kong<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fmarcopologbf%2Fphotos%2Fa.267062289981499.65921.143855265635536%2F1593953783959003%2F%3Ftype%3D3&amp;width=500&amp;show_text=false&amp;height=332&amp;appId\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nThe self-proclaimed longest-running Oktoberfest in Asia, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onetravel.com\/cheap-flights\/hong-kong-hkg-hong-kong-deals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hong Kong<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbfhk.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marco Polo German Bierfest<\/a>\u00a0usually runs from the end of October to the first week of November. Participants can look forward to partaking in plenty of German food and beer, as well as dancing to live German music.
