{"id":85560420,"date":"2010-10-11T15:23:00","date_gmt":"2010-10-11T15:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.onetravel.com\/travel-trends\/inside-the-nyc-wine-and-food-festival-burger-bash\/"},"modified":"2021-07-29T04:49:09","modified_gmt":"2021-07-29T08:49:09","slug":"inside-the-nyc-wine-and-food-festival-burger-bash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onetravel.com\/going-places\/inside-the-nyc-wine-and-food-festival-burger-bash\/","title":{"rendered":"Inside the NYC Wine and Food Festival: Burger Bash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The third annual Food Network-sponsored Wine and Food Festival has become one of the food world\u2019s major destination events\u2014but its populist bent is clear, with comfort food-focused events rating as the crowd favorites.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The place to be Friday night was the Blue Moon Burger Bash, which welcomes 2,300 hungry people and 23 teams of chefs to the Tobacco Warehouse at Fulton Landing, a giant open-air space under the Brooklyn Bridge.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The grills started heating up at 5, waiting for guests to begin arriving at 7 via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onetravel.com\/airlines\/delta-air-lines-dl\">Delta Airlines<\/a>-sponsored shuttle buses, and by the time the sun went down, fragrant smoke and live music filled the air.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s event was heavy on sponsorship, with generous support from Heinz ketchup, Sutter Home Vineyards, and Pat LaFrieda Meats, the favored provider of every big name burger purveyor in the city and the event\u2019s co-sponsor.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The LaFrieda meat lived up to its reputation, with Danny Meyer\u2019s Shake Shack burger taking the judges\u2019 choice\u2014a good omen for the mini-chain, which sells thousands of its sliders around New York every day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The crowd\u2019s pick was Bobby Flay\u2019s southwestern-accented burgers, topped with jalapenos, queso, and tortilla chips, and served with a tequila milkshake on the side.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The final official honor of the night, Heinz\u2019s Best Dressed Burger award, went to the newly opened Hurricane Club for their spectacular toppings&#8211;jack cheese, pickled jalapenos, labneh yogurt and their special fire-eater sauce, served with sweet potato waffle fries with spiced maple cream topping.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019d be remiss if we didn\u2019t mention a few other crowd\/personal favorites\u2014Lure Fishbar, last year\u2019s surprise winner for People\u2019s Choice, presented a spectacularly simple and tender burger topped with bacon jam, equaled only by Back Forty\u2019s beefy patty for a traditional-style burger.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Spike Mendelsohn, of Top Chef fame, presented a Vietnamese-styled burger topped with fresh veggies and siracha-spiked mayonnaise, which was surprisingly fresh while still feeling substantial.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Greenhouse Tavern and The Dutch also received accolades, and the legendary Minetta Tavern\u2019s LaFrieda Black Label beef, topped with caramelized onions, appeared in miniature form, a delicious taste of what is normally a $26 extravaganza.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While we\u2019d recommend visiting the Burger Bash any year, many of the individual restaurants do have their entries on their regular menu\u2014so we\u2019ve included the full list of competitors below for your next burger joint to New York.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Participating Restaurants and Chefs:<br \/>\n<strong>\u201821\u2019 Club:<\/strong> John Greeley\u00a0 www.21club.com<br \/>\n<strong>3Bs at Food Parc:<\/strong>\u00a0 Scott Ubert\u00a0 www.chinagrillmgt.com<br \/>\n<strong>67 Burger:<\/strong> Jeff Maslanka\u00a0 www.67burger.com<br \/>\n<strong>The Dutch:<\/strong> Andrew Carmellini www.andrewcarmellini.com\/site\/the-dutch\/<br \/>\n<strong>Back Forty:<\/strong> Peter Hoffman\u00a0 www.backfortynyc.com<br \/>\n<strong>Bill&#8217;s Bar &amp;
