{"id":739,"date":"2011-05-26T12:10:00","date_gmt":"2011-05-26T12:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.onetravel.com\/travel-trends\/orlando-and-new-york-city-in-tussle-over-tourism-title\/"},"modified":"2021-08-13T02:44:00","modified_gmt":"2021-08-13T06:44:00","slug":"orlando-and-new-york-city-in-tussle-over-tourism-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onetravel.com\/going-places\/orlando-and-new-york-city-in-tussle-over-tourism-title\/","title":{"rendered":"Orlando and New York City in Tussle over Tourism Title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, tourism officials in both Orlando and New York City have laid claim to tourism supremacy, with each city touting nearly 50 million visitors in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, official numbers released earlier in the week seem to suggest that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onetravel.com\/cheap-flights\/orlando-orl-florida-deals\">Orlando<\/a> narrowly surpassed New York City in number of visitors in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Some in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onetravel.com\/cheap-flights\/new-york-city-nyc-new-york-deals\">New York City<\/a> are disputing the claim, though, as Orlando\u2019s count included visitors to several counties in the greater Orlando area.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One New York official compared it to counting visitors to Woodstock in the official NYC count.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Orlando officials shot back that comparing attractions like Walt Disney World (16 miles from downtown Orlando) to Woodstock (100 miles outside of NYC) is ridiculous.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of which city is the true number one, there is no denying that both experienced a tourist boom in 2010.
