This June some of London’s<\/a><\/strong> most celebrated venues \u2013 such as the Museum of London, the British Library, the British Museum, Tate Modern and the V&A \u2013 will play host to a world class, citywide celebration of photography as the London Festival of Photography returns for a second year.<\/p>\n

Last year’s successful London Street Photography festival has shifted its focus to become the London Festival of Photography. Organizers behind the photo fest promise there will still be a \u201cdeep commitment\u201d to feature compelling, historic and contemporary street photography but feel that a re-branding will give them \u201cthe freedom to encompass work of a more documentary and conceptual nature.\u201d<\/p>\n

2012 will see the festival expand to encompass street, documentary and conceptual photography with almost 20 exhibitions (17 of which are free to the public) and 40 satellite events (workshops, talks and screenings) to take in over a whole month. The re-branded festival will serve to showcase the best of contemporary and historic visual storytelling, encourage dialogue about a wide variety of current social and political issues, and establish a global platform for photographic practice and learning through a comprehensive programme of exhibitions and events.<\/p>\n

Exhibitions will vary in style and format, presenting a comprehensive mixture of disciplines with work from both established and emerging photographers. Content will be curated around the theme of Inside Out: Reflections on the Public and the Private<\/em>. The exciting 2012 lineup includes The Great British Public<\/em> (featuring work by Britain’s top contemporary photographers like Martin Parr), The Gaddafi Archives – Libya Before the Arab Spring<\/em> (a worldwide exclusive glimpse into the life of the infamous dictator), Let This Be A Sign<\/em> (an exhibition of new work from Simon Roberts), a masterclass with 2011 World Press Photo winner Jodi Bieber and plenty of other topical ops for avid shutterbugs.<\/p>\n
