Copenhagen was the first European city I visited. To my fourteen-year-old self, it was absolutely magical. On subsequent trips, I\u2019ve discovered that my adult self agrees with my initial reaction. Here are three things in Copenhagen that will captivate your kids and make them want to return time and time again.<\/p>\n
The Little Mermaid<\/strong> Tivoli Gardens<\/strong><\/a>
\nOver the years, The Little Mermaid (Den lille havfrue in Danish), a bronze statue crafted in honor of Denmark\u2019s own Hans Christian Anderson\u2019s famous story, has become the symbol of Copenhagen. You can find the Little Mermaid perched on a rock and (fittingly) surrounded by water in the Langelinie neighborhood, in the northeastern corner of Frederiksstaden. Plan your visit for a sunny day and take advantage of a great photo opportunity. A fun idea would be to read Anderson\u2019s version of the Little Mermaid with your kids on the plane ride over so they know more about the statue when they visit it.<\/p>\n
\nOne of the most visited theme parks in Europe, Tivoli Gardens opened in 1843. Unlike ultra-modern amusement parks (think Euro Disney), Tivoli Gardens has preserved much of its historic charm. Kids will enjoy rides, puppet shows, quaint restaurants serving traditional Danish treats, theaters and dance halls. The entry price is reasonable (around $15 USD), but be prepared to pay extra for rides.
