One of Dallas\u2019s most vibrant and eclectic neighborhoods, Bishop Arts, boasts over sixty independent restaurants and retailers. From art galleries to BBQ joints to furniture shops, there is plenty to see and do in this ever-evolving area. Here are some of the treasures I discovered when I had a chance to spend a day in Bishop Arts this spring.<\/p>\n

When you walk through the doors at Society, you can\u2019t help but be curious about the candles ensconced by large glass bells (pick them up to experience the specialty scent of each candle). Nestled amongst the candles you\u2019ll find antique housewares, books and jewelry from independent designers. It\u2019s a great place to find a unique gift for the person who has everything.
\nGinger Fox Gallery<\/a><\/strong><\/em>
\n408 North Bishop<\/em><\/p>\n

Browse hyper-realist and conceptual paintings, photographs, assemblage, pottery, and sculptural jewelry in a clean, bright gallery setting. The staff is knowledgeable and ready to tell you about the group of talented artists who display their work in this wonderful space. A visit to Ginger Fox Gallery is a great introduction to the Dallas art scene.
\nZoomos Pop-Up Shop<\/a><\/strong><\/em>
\n504 North Madison Avenue<\/em><\/p>\n

Zoomos is a pop-up marketplace for designers, artists and entrepreneurs to show their wares. From graphic t-shirts to font-based art to baseball caps made with Hawaiian fabric, Zoomos is full of unexpected gems. It\u2019s a great place to find a unique bit of Dallas to take home with you.

Lockhart Smokehouse<\/a><\/strong>
\n400 West Davis Street (at the corner of North Bishop and West Davis)<\/em><\/p>\n

Known for its finger lickin\u2019 good Central Texas style BBQ, Lockhard has become a neighborhood favorite. Not only can you eat delectable meats and sauces, you can learn how to cook them Lockhart\u2019s Smoke Camps (hosted throughout the year).
\nEmporium Pies<\/a><\/strong>
\n314 North Bishop Ave<\/em><\/p>\n

A Dallas institution, Emporium whips up delicious pies with unexpected flavor combinations, such as: Smooth Operator (French silk chocolate with pretzel crust), Dr. Love (a red velvet chess pie), and Cloud Nine (a three-layer cr\u00e8me pie with caramel, butterscotch, brown sugar, and meringue.
\nDude, Sweet Chocolate<\/a><\/strong>
\n408 West 8th Street<\/em><\/p>\n

The name might be playful, but these dudes are serious about chocolate. Grab a roll of chocolate \u201csalami\u201d or their One Night Stand Solution, a shelf-stable chocolate sauce made with 100 Anos Reposado tequilla, agave syrup, cane sugar and South American dark chocolate sauce.<\/p>\n
