Given the chance to take the family to Paris, it’s almost impossible not to say oui! Of course, Paris is known for its culture and cuisine, but did you know that it’s kid-friendly as well? Check out these five destinations for les enfants of all ages in the City of Lights.
If you’re in Paris in the summer, take the kids to Paris Plages, temporary beaches along the Seine. Complete with sandy beaches, lounge chairs, and ice cream vendors, it’s a great place to relax for the afternoon and, if you’re lucky, take in a live concert. If you need a bit more activity, you can always play beach volleyball, take an aqua-aerobics class in a mini pool, or go for a kayak.
Ice Rink at L’Hôtel de Ville
If you’re in Paris between December and March, check out the ice rink at l’Hôtel de Ville and other locations throughout the city (including in front of the Montparnasse tower). The Hôtel de Ville location is the best for kids, as there is a small luge that they are sure to enjoy.
Paris’ children’s museum, Cité des Enfants, is a well-designed, eclectic museum that will engage kids for hours. It is located in Parc de la Villette, one of the largest parks in Paris (also home to a music museum and concert venues). Visit the Cité des Enfants website (in French and English) to purchase tickets ahead of time, as there is a pre-scheduled entry system.
Jardin du Luxembourg (Luxembourg Garden)
There are few things more relaxing than strolling through the expansive Jardin du Luxembourg on a sunny Parisian afternoon. The kids will love the Renaissance garden, which includes slides, swings, a hundred-year-old puppet theater and the famous carousel.
Le Jardin des Plantes
Located in the 5th arrondissement near the Seine, the Jardin des Plantes is a massive botanical garden. It includes a zoo and an old natural history museum (dinosaur bones, anyone?) that will transfix “les petits,” and teach them a thing or two as well.
