The week before Christmas in Salvador 
5 I was fortunate enough to be able to spend a few days in Salvador during a trip to Brazil. This happened to be the week before Christmas. I had heard that Salvador is a colourful and energetic place at any time of year, but with the added build up to Christmas, this was certainly the case. Pelourinho was alive most evenings with music and dancing. There was a band dressed as Father Christmases who wandered the streets, playing Christmas songs with a distinctly Brazilian flavour. Huge puppets followed the band around, giving an almost carnival-like feeling. I'm sure Salvador is equally as welcoming all year round, but it certainly helped to put me in the Christmas spirit.
