Endless Mountains 
5 My family of five adults greatly enjoyed our time in Guilin. The area is stunning for its beauty - literally thousands of mountains cover the land. I could never really comprehend that idea until I saw it firsthand. We travelled there in middle of December. It was very cold. The fog rolled in while we were there, which made it difficult to see the rice terraces, but it was still a good experience to go there anyway. I'd love to go back and see them when the rice is full and going to be harvested! I highly recommend Guilin. It is a place I'll never forget.

Guilin surrounded by water and steep pointed mountains 
4 As you leave the airport you may think....where's all the beautfiul peaks that are supposing to be surrounding Guilin? Don't close your eyes to take a nap for the next 40 minutes to the city center or you might miss the peaks that all of a sudden appear on the horizon as you approach the city. In fairness, once you see the peaks you'll understand why they had to go so far out of town to build the airport. The city center is surrounded by water and sits in the middle of transversing streets and bridges. You can walk along the rivers edge, gaze at pointed peaks or shop till you drop. There's plenty to do in the city but it's the beauty ouside of the city that hold's your attention. Cruise down the Li River, ride a bamboo raft, watch water buffalo or gaze out across the Longsheng rice terraces. Visit villages that will take you back to rural China. And while you're at it enjoy the various cusines avaialable in this serene city.
