Capital of Republic of the Congo, Brazzaville is situated on the Congo River, right opposite Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The pleasantly laid-back capital is the best place for visitors to experience warm Congolese culture. Brazzaville is home to a sizeable Muslim population. Brazzaville is lined with several landmarks such as the Case de Gaulle, Zoological Park, Sacre-Coeur Cathedral, Town Hall, and City Amusement Park. The local market, Marche Total, is full of vendors selling fresh produce, fish, meat, and household goods. Visitors can take a leisurely walk along the river where they will find a number of chic cafes, eateries and bars. For sweeping views of the city and Congo River, visitors must head to the cylindrical Nabemba Tower.
Pointe Noire
The second largest city in the Republic of the Congo, Pointe Noire is a major port city. Located on a headland between the Atlantic Ocean and Pointe-Noire Bay, the city is known for French colonial architecture and its pristine beaches. Pointe Noire is lined with several beach resorts. The city is the major commercial and oil industry hub of Congo. The region offers hiking, trekking, and camping opportunities. In close proximity, nature lovers can explore the rainforest which surrounds the striking red cliffs of the Diosso Gorge. The Conkouati-Douli National Park is located north of Pointe Noire and features diverse terrain such as mangroves, lagoons, and savanna. The national park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to abundant wildlife including elephant, leopards, sitatunga, Chimpanzees, buffalo, gorillas, bushpigs, and mandrill.
Oyo
Located in the Cuvette Region, Oyo is a port city. Situated on the eastern
banks of the Alima River, the city is roughly 400 km from Brazzaville.
Connected to the capital, Brazzaville, by a paved road, Oyo is 5 kms from
Edou city. While here, visitors can take a leisurely stroll along the banks
and relax at the picturesque riverfront. A sleepy town, Oyo is known for
being the residence of the President and his family. The Alima Palace,
located on the edge of the banks of the river, is well worth visiting.
