Founded in 1973, ATA Airlines (TZ) was a low cost carrier that operated scheduled flights across Hawaii and the US Mainland. The airline was headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana and flew to more than 12 destinations. Some of the famous travel destinations that it covered were Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Montego Bay and many more. ATA Airlines also operated charter and military flights throughout the world. The airline enjoyed a fleet size of more than 25 aircrafts which included collection of Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 757-200.

On April 3, 2008, the airline had to cease its operations after losing a major contract related to its military charter business. The airline had to discontinue its operations with immediate effect and issued a public statement apologizing to its customers and suppliers about the inconvenience that this decision caused to them.
